YouTube is Testing a Feature that Lets Select Creators Remix Songs Using AI (Tech Crunch)

YouTube is expanding its AI-powered Dream Track toolset to let select creators remix songs by describing their desired style or mood. This new “Restyle a track” feature generates 30-second snippets, allowing creators to experiment with altering the genre or tone of songs while preserving the original vocals and lyrics. Initially launched last year, the Dream Track toolset enables AI-generated music creation, leveraging DeepMind’s Lyria music generation model. This update continues YouTube’s push into AI-generated content, enhancing creative possibilities for its Shorts platform.

To address potential concerns from the music industry, YouTube is ensuring proper attribution and compensation for artists and rights holders. Remixed tracks will be credited within the Shorts video and labeled to indicate AI modification. Additionally, YouTube has partnered with Universal Music Group (UMG) to develop a rights structure for its AI features. This move aligns with industry trends, as other platforms like Hook are also exploring remix tools for user-generated content, expanding how music is used in short-form video creation.
