Studios are Cracking Down on Some of the Internet’s Most Popular Pirating Sites (The Verge)

The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), in partnership with Hollywood’s Motion Picture Association (MPA), has achieved a significant victory in its battle against digital piracy. ACE, a coalition of over 50 entertainment companies like Amazon, Disney, and Warner Bros., has played a key role in the takedown of Fmovies, a major piracy streaming network. The closure of Fmovies, described as the world’s largest pirate streaming operation, follows the arrest of two suspects in Vietnam. This move has been hailed as a major win for the creative community and a deterrent for other illegal streaming sites.

Fmovies’ closure aligns with the recent shutdown of other piracy sites such as Aniwave and AnimeFlix. Aniwave’s site now features a message urging users to switch to legal streaming services to support content creators. While ACE has not claimed responsibility for Aniwave’s closure, its messaging matches the organization’s ongoing anti-piracy efforts. Despite piracy’s longstanding appeal due to its affordability and extensive content libraries, the recent takedowns highlight the industry’s continued fight against piracy as studios look to protect their intellectual property in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
