Oklahoma’s film industry is gaining momentum with the launch of One Set Studio, the state’s first purpose-built virtual production and extended reality (XR) studio, located in downtown Oklahoma City. Featuring a massive 40-foot-wide, 13-foot-tall LED volume wall, the studio allows filmmakers to shoot in any setting—whether it’s a bustling city street or courtside with the Thunder Girls—without ever leaving the studio. This cutting-edge technology eliminates the need for costly travel and mitigates weather-related delays, offering creative flexibility and efficiency for content creators. Since opening in spring 2024, One Set Studio has attracted major sports teams, advertisers, and film productions, including its first feature film, The One, starring Martin Sheen, with 95% of the cast and crew sourced locally.
For studio director Tava Maloy Sofsky, the mission goes beyond production; it’s about cultivating Oklahoma’s creative workforce. After two decades working in the film industry outside the state, Sofsky is dedicated to building opportunities at home. The studio plans to collaborate with educators to train the next generation of filmmakers, emphasizing virtual production as the future of filmmaking. “When productions choose to stay here, they’re helping build a local workforce,” Sofsky says, highlighting One Set Studio’s role in not just transforming the state’s film landscape but also nurturing sustainable industry growth.
