Live Nation is facing a class-action lawsuit following a significant data breach at Ticketmaster, which reportedly exposed the personal information of up to 560 million users. The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in California, accuses the company of negligence, citing inadequate security measures that allowed hacker group ShinyHunters to access sensitive customer data such as full names, phone numbers, addresses, and credit card details. The breach went undetected for nearly two months, and Ticketmaster took an additional four months to notify affected users, prompting accusations of delayed disclosure and improper data protection.
The breach is linked to a third-party server managed by cloud company Snowflake, but Snowflake has not been named in the lawsuit. The lawsuit also alleges that Ticketmaster improperly retained user data and sold it to third parties, increasing the risk of identity theft. The plaintiffs are seeking at least $5 million in damages. The Ticketmaster breach is the latest in a series of cyberattacks on media and telecom companies this year, with ShinyHunters previously claiming responsibility for other high-profile hacks involving companies like Pizza Hut, AT&T, and GitHub.
