A new report from the Digital Production Partnership (DPP) titled The State of Media Technology Security 2024 highlights a stark divide between broadcasters and media technology vendors regarding cybersecurity. While broadcasters take a cautious approach to their cybersecurity, acknowledging vulnerabilities across workflows from production to distribution, vendors tend to believe their products, policies, and staff are secure. This disconnect underscores a growing concern among content providers who see technology vendors’ optimism as potentially naive in the face of increasing cyber threats.
The report also reveals that while media technology innovations have advanced the industry, they have not necessarily improved security. Broadcasters feel that product innovations have introduced additional complexity and vulnerabilities, while vendors believe their solutions are strengthening the industry’s security posture. The findings, based on a survey of 59 organizations, will be discussed at the DPP Espresso Summit at IBC 2024, with a focus on how both sides can better align in tackling the evolving cybersecurity landscape.
