CDSA Summit @ L.A.: Material Security CISO Tackles ATOs (CDSAonline)

At the CDSA Summit @ Los Angeles, Rajan Kapoor, Field CISO at Material Security, shed light on the growing threat of account takeovers (ATOs) in his presentation, “Account Takeover: Modernizing the Battlefield.” According to the Microsoft 2024 Digital Defense Report, ATO incidents have surged 66% since 2021, with attackers increasingly targeting cloud productivity suites like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. These platforms serve as gateways to corporate data and identity access, making them prime targets for cybercriminals seeking deeper infiltration into businesses.

Kapoor emphasized that traditional security tools are no longer enough to combat evolving ATO threats, as many organizations still rely on outdated methods with critical gaps in visibility and post-breach protection. He called for a modernized security approach that focuses on real-time attack detection, proactive risk mitigation, and enhanced data protection—even in the event of a breach. As ATO attacks grow more sophisticated, businesses must evolve their cloud security strategies to protect against these persistent threats.
