Bitmovin has launched its VOD Encoder on the Akamai Connected Cloud, combining advanced video streaming software with Akamai’s distributed edge and cloud platform to enhance content delivery and optimize streaming workflows. Designed as a fully managed SaaS, Bitmovin’s VOD Encoding enables high-quality, on-demand video streaming for applications like SVOD, AVOD, and TVOD, delivering superior visual quality at lower bit rates. This integration aims to reduce storage and bandwidth costs while improving viewer experiences through advanced encoding techniques and multi-codec outputs.
The collaboration also includes seamless integrations with popular third-party services like DRM, captioning, workflow orchestration, and server-side ad insertion, alongside support for Akamai’s CDN and cloud storage. Bitmovin’s CEO, Stefan Lederer, highlighted the milestone as a continuation of their successful partnership with Akamai, which previously launched Bitmovin’s Live Encoder on the platform. Together, the companies aim to provide scalable and cost-efficient video solutions that redefine streaming capabilities. Demonstrations of this technology will be showcased at the International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam.
