At the CDSA Summit @ Los Angeles, Scott Ehrlich of Sinclair Broadcast Group and Allan McLennan of PADEM Media Group highlighted both the promises and challenges of AI adoption in media and entertainment. During their keynote, they emphasized how AI is revolutionizing labor-intensive tasks like language translation and subtitling, delivering significant cost savings. However, they stressed that AI cannot replace the human touch, especially in creative processes. McLennan noted, “AI keeps going, but an artist knows when to stop,” underlining the irreplaceable value of human judgment.
Ehrlich discussed the transformative potential of AI in content production workflows, such as pre-visualization and storyboarding, which now allow creators to focus more on innovation than routine tasks. At Sinclair, AI’s ability to transcribe interviews and analyze video for social media content has increased efficiency. Both speakers reinforced that AI isn’t a replacement for people, but a tool for those willing to adapt, stating, “People who know how to use AI are going to replace those who don’t.” The session showcased how AI, when responsibly integrated, can enhance creativity and streamline operations.
