Texas A&M University’s College of Performance, Visualization, and Fine Arts has partnered with Sony Electronics to establish the Virtual Production Institute, leveraging cutting-edge technologies like Crystal LED panels, BURANO and VENICE 2 digital cinema cameras, and professional monitors. This collaboration equips students and industry partners with state-of-the-art virtual production tools, offering unparalleled hands-on training in creating immersive, real-time virtual environments. The institute, which includes four virtual production stages across campuses in Bryan-College Station and Fort Worth, aims to redefine workforce training and simulation, extending beyond entertainment to fields like healthcare, manufacturing, and military applications.
Supported by Texas legislative funding and Synapse Virtual Production as the integrator, the institute will offer a new minor in virtual production and showcase its capabilities through events like “Arts in Motion,” a demonstration of Sony’s Crystal LED wall technology and other innovations. David Parrish, director of the Fort Worth campus, emphasized that this initiative places Texas A&M at the forefront of virtual production, fostering collaboration with industry leaders to prepare the next generation of creative professionals. By integrating Sony’s advanced ecosystem, the institute sets a benchmark for innovation and workforce readiness in virtual production technologies.
