The 2024 IBC Innovation Awards, held in Amsterdam, celebrated groundbreaking achievements in sports media and video journalism, highlighting organizations transforming the media, entertainment, and technology landscape. This year’s awards honored winners across five categories: Content Creation, Content Distribution, Content Everywhere, Social Impact, and Environment & Sustainability. Sports media innovations were a major focus, with four out of the five awards recognizing efforts related to large-scale events like the Summer Olympics and UEFA European Football Championship. The awards underscore IBC’s mission to recognize industry collaboration and innovation, which CEO Michael Crimp emphasized as critical to shaping the future of media.
Notably, the prestigious IBC International Honour for Excellence (IHFE) was presented to Ukrainian video journalist Mstyslav Chernov for his acclaimed documentary 20 DAYS IN MARIUPOL, which chronicles the siege of the city during the Russian invasion in 2022. The Best Technical Paper Award went to researchers Joshua Maraval, Nicolas Ramin, and Lu Zhang for their work on volumetric video generation for VR experiences.
